The Open and Distance Learning Quality Council (ODL QC) is an independent body, set up in 1969 at the request of the government. It aims to raise standards and protect learners' interests through the accreditation of open and distance learning providers.
The ODL QC is the principal accreditation body for a wide variety of providers of open and distance learning in the UK, from commercial colleges to professional and public sector institutions. Now independent, it nevertheless continues to have the informal support of government.
The ODL QC promotes quality by:
Accreditation of providers includes a rigorous assessment of their provision, including materials, tutorial support, publicity, contractual arrangements with learners and general administrative procedures, each of which is measured against the Council's published benchmark standards. If accredited, the provider is monitored on a regular basis and reassessed at least once every three years.
Advance Training was assessed in 2001 and re-assessed in 2004.
