IPLDP / PLC
IPLDP is the Initial Police Learning and Development Program through which all student officers in England and Wales (except the Metropolitan Police) undergo prior to going out on independent patrol. There are a number of exams throughout the IPLDP as part of the ongoing assessment throughout the probationary period. The equivalent course in the Metroplitan Police is Police, Law and Community (PLC). The IPLDP has been developed by the National Police Improvement Authority - the NPIA.
The IPLDP syllabus has core subjects which should be taught to all student police officers and then some advanced subjects which each force has discretion to teach to their officers if the legislation covered is relevant to their policing context. Multiple-choice formative assessment is used throughout the IPLDP to provide feedback to the student officer and help them in their own development.
